Papercourt Sailing Club is based upon an inland lake conveniently situated just off the Wisley junction (exit 10) of the M25, about a mile from the villages of Ripley and Send. The sailing area consists of some 40 acres, and there are generous car and boat parking facilities. The recently improved Clubhouse offers a pleasant social area, showers, refreshment and licensed bars, and training facilities.

Please visit us any Saturday or Sunday in the summer, or Sunday in the winter season. Saturday mornings is best for young sailors.

Management

The Club is run by a main committee, assisted by four subcommittees to ensure that every aspect of Club life is fully considered and co-ordinated. In addition, many members give freely of their time to fill the various posts essential to ensure the smooth running of the Club. There are no paid staff - not only does this serve to keep subscriptions low, but also promotes a camaraderie amongst the membership. It also means, of course, that the success of the Club depends very much upon all members  conscientiously carrying out the duties allocated to them.

Club Sailing

There are currently over 500 dinghies at Papercourt, the most popular fleets being the Solo, Graduate, Topper, Mirror, Laser, Enterprise, GP14, Byte and Lark. We also have a particularly strong Optimist fleet and run a very successful training programme for youngsters on Saturday mornings throughout the Summer season. Several of our youngsters have been selected for the National Squad and compete at a very high level around the country and abroad. Once they grow out of the Optimist, they are eligible to join our "Young Sailors" group. This is an informal organisation which, though run by an adult, allows the teenagers themselves to decide their programme and mix serious sailing with "fun" events as they wish.

A full sailing programme is offered throughout the year: in the Summer there is racing on Saturday afternoons and all day on Sundays and Bank Holidays. In addition there is sailing on Wednesday evenings during May through to September. During the Winter months sailing takes place on Sundays only.

There are facilities for disabled sailing.

Open & Away Events

The  Club is always well represented at major National events, and members have achieved some very creditable results over the years at events like the Southport 24 hour Race and the "Bloody Mary". We also enter teams in RYA Team Racing competitions.

Open meetings are hosted for all the main classes sailed at Papercourt, and days are set aside for Charity Races, Fun Regattas and Team Racing. There is also an active social programme to enjoy - barbecues, discos, quiz nights, visiting speakers and a formal Laying Up Supper and Prize-giving in November.

Training

The Training facilities at Papercourt are second to none. We are an RYA recognised teaching establishment and offer a range of courses throughout the year for a nominal fee to members wishing to improve their skills and qualify for the various RYA Certificates. Many members are themselves RYA qualified Instructors and all ages and levels of experience are encouraged to develop their prowess.

Membership

Though primarily a racing club, we are proud of our reputation as a friendly, family club catering for all ages and abilities. For many years now there has been a waiting list to join, such is our popularity, and any prospective member is well advised to make an application immediately in order to join the waiting list. The Membership Secretary will then advise as to how long it will be before membership can be offered.
