2008  OPPY TRAINING DETAILS

Parents Pre-Season Drinks and Planning

Monday 17 March at 8.00pm

The new sailing season will soon be upon us and to get us off to a great start, we are having a get-together for ALL parents, new and old, on Monday 17 March at the Club with drinks and nibbles. Come along, renew old friendships and find out what’s new this season at Papercourt Oppies. We start at 2000 and the formal business will be over by 2130. Please come along with ideas, diaries and your volunteering hat on!  The idea is that we can sort out everything without boring the kids and have less hanging around for them on the first days of training.

We will run through the organisation for Saturdays, introduce the system to new comers and will need your good ideas to improve things.  Remember, we offer volunteer based training which is fantastic value for money.  But for it to be successful we need EVERYONE to help - no matter whether you are a top sailor yourself or if you don't know your burgee from your boom!!  There are jobs for everyone!! So come down and choose what you do rather than being told what you'll do.

So we have an idea of numbers can you please confirm your attendance to andy@banksfamily.f9.co.uk

TRAINING TIMES

Last year we had a staggered start to the day and all agreed that worked well so we will continue with that again this year.  Start Sailing, Group 1 and 1P will start at 10.00am and Group 2 and above at 11.00.  We are also going to start the season on different weekends to reduce the chaos we always get at the beginning of the season. So, Group 3 and Racing  will start on the 5th April (11.00), Group 2 and 2P on the 19th April (11.00) and Start Sailors, Group 1 and 1P on the 26th April (10.00).  We'll make it very clear which group your kids will be in.

REGISTRATION

This year you will need to complete a registration form and send it to:

Grace Allen

38 White Rose Lane

Woking, Surrey

GU22 7LB

For Registration form to join the Oppie fleet, download:

in pdf format         2008 Oppie Registration Form.pdf

in docx format       2008 Oppie Registration Form.doc

Registration fee is £10 for each child for the 2008 season.

You will also need a IOCA log book for each child.  If you don't already have one we sell them for £20 each or alternatively you can join IOCA for £25 and get a free log book (log onto www.optimistsailing.org.uk  website for details). If joining IOCA for the first time do this as soon as possible as there will be a delay in receiving the log book.

Cheques for the registration (for each child) and logbook (if buying from us) should be made payable to Papercourt Sailing Club and posted with the registration form.  If you have any questions regarding the registration, seasonal fee or log book please email Grace at gracie.allen@btinternet.com or Andy at  andy@banksfamily.f9.co.uk

In order to help plan who does what please indicate your preference for helping.  If you can sail indicate your ability - most of us are not formally qualified to teach, so if you know the basics you can be a real help.  We need lots of safety boat drivers but to do this you need to have passed RYA Powerboat Level 2.  If you have that qualification please indicate so on the form.

Closing date for registration is the 1st April 2008.

ELIGIBILITY

We welcome children of all abilities throughout the year. We do set a minimum qualifying age and to partake in the training which is 8 years old by the end of the year.  This means your child must have been born before the 31st December 2000.  You must also be full members of Papercourt Sailing Club.

If you have any questions please email Andy Banks at andy@banksfamily.f9.co.uk
